No.7 Nails.. ding dong Avon Lady

After some careful consideration on how I am going to acquire some extra cash that will hopefully mount towards a flat deposit (Ha ambitious I know) , I decided to follow in the footsteps of so many women and become an Avon Rep. Yes it will take time and the possibility of this venture not becoming entirely successful is likely, however I thought I’d give it a go and at least attempt to look the part.

Surprisingly in my line of work, my nails are subject to abuse and neglect (no I’m not a builder/professional nail biter), therefore I decided to make more effort in their appearance and maintenance. Last week, on one of my precious days off I took a trip to Boots and decided to purchase a No7 Nail Polish.

The No7 Polish that I chose was ‘Me!Me!Me!’ It’s from the Stay Perfect range and dries surprisingly quickly. If you’re like me, and are extremely clumsy and messy when applying nail polish, fear not this is easy to use. The brush isn’t too thick, making it easy to apply and as you can see – stay on the nail without painting the skin. This polish lasts as well so If you don’t really have the time to maintain them due to work/laziness This is perfect for you.

No7 Stay perfect Nail polish retails at around £7.00

P.S on the off chance that any of you do want to try some Avon, follow the twitter link and contact me for details.

Clarins Counter Conquest

Having a 9 am meeting on your day off is never ideal, so what better way to take full advantage of actually being dressed and out of the house (before noon) than paying a visit to one of my favourite counters.  I decided to take a stroll down the hill and pop into Debenhams and splurge on some much needed Clarins essentials.

I originally went in with the intention of just purchasing some exfoliating face wash, but of course, I left with 4 more items….  HOWEVER in my defence, 3 of those items were complimentary, plus a free bag?!  I bought the One-Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser with Orange Extract and the One –Step Facial Cleanser. The complimentary items that I was kindly given were: The Hydra Quench Cream, The Gentle Refiner Exfoliating Cream with Microbeads, and The Moisture- Rich Body Lotion.  I have always been a massive fan of the One-Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser, and could not recommend it enough.  This product properly and gently cleans your skin leaving it smooth and free of impurities.  It’s suitable for all skin types and it doesn’t leave that horrible dry feeling that a lot of exfoliating cleansers leave behind. Not only does it cleanse and exfoliate, it detoxifies your skin to help combat the adverse effects of pollution. It also tones the skin giving it that radiant glow afterwards. It’s a winner all round! The One-Step Facial Cleanser is the perfect follow up to the exfoliater.  Both products contain orange and plant extracts which work together to refresh the skin even more.  The Facial cleanser is so easy to use, it removes make up and other impurities quickly. The thing that I love most is that (if used properly) it absorbs quickly, so you’re not left with that greasy feeling after. The Hydra Quench is a fantastic moisturiser to finish on.  It absorbs quickly and you don’t need to use a vast amount to hydrate your skin.

I always receive a lecture from my Mum on the importance of cleansing, toning and moisturising, day AND night.  Clarins products make it very easy to do and at an affordable price.  You don’t need to use loads at a time so a bottle really does go a long way.  So there really isn’t an excuse not to follow this routine.  So I suggest you pop into Debenhams, or your nearest Clarins counter and try out these products.

Retail prices: One-Step Gentle Exfoliating Cleanser – £19.00, One-Step Facial Cleanser – £19, Hydra Quench Cream – £33.50,

bareMinerals – bare beauty, bare good yah

From the age of 13, the maintenance of a woman’s skin will be her biggest chore. Sure you can say when you’re 13 ‘God does your make up’; however we are all too familiar with teenage bubonic plague-esque spots (which I would not consider a gift from God). I’m sure that most of you will agree and reminisce caking on the foundation and blusher thinking that this was a fantastic idea, but actually in hindsight, looking like a 16th century courtesan.  As we get older, we live in the hope that our skin will calm down and become miraculously clear by our 20’s, but of course unless you are extremely lucky that is not the case.  We are still guilty of piling on the foundation in the vein hope that our skin will look as good as we believe it should do.  And of course let’s not forget when you get past your 20’s there is yet another hindrance to consider….the dreaded wrinkles.

When it comes to skin, a woman’s work is never done. However bareMinerals have created a product that transcends all age groups and solves most skin problems!  bareMinerals very kindly sent me the ‘Get Started’ Kit and a ‘Duo READY Eyeshadow’. The ‘Get Started’ kit is all you could ever ask for in your make up bag. It consists of : 1) Prime Time Foundation Primer,2) bareMinerals SPF Foundation 3) Warmth  and  4) Mineral Veil. It also comes with 3 application brushes – Flawless Face Brush, Flawless Application Face Brush and a Light Stroke Brush.  Some people may be over whelmed with so many different pots and brushes but fear not, the kit also comes with a handy manual and ‘Get Started’ DVD to help you along the way. This is a fantastic product which provides complete cover and is also good for your skin! bareMinerals has been clinically proven to improve your complexion, so if you’re like me, and have been guilty of forgetting to take your make- up off properly after a night out, relax because bareMinerals doesn’t use harsh chemicals, it can only do good things to your skin. Personally for me the best thing about bareMinerals is the natural look it provides. It really does give the illusion of no make-up which gives a younger, smoother and healthier complexion. It is safe to say I can kiss my bad foundation days behind me. No longer will I run the risk of channelling a tanned Elizabeth I.

The READY Duo Eyeshadow is the perfect accompaniment to this miracle 4 step foundation.  The READY Eyeshadow 2.0 comes with two colours- a peachy colour and a brownish grey. Both colours are easy and diverse, you can use them to create a subtle sophisticated day time look and a fantastic evening look.  Again, the Eyeshadow is as easy to use as the foundation and the DVD provides useful tips and suggestions on how to maximise your features.

I can safely say that you will be able to leave your make-up and skin troubles behind with this kit. The ‘Get Started kit’ retails at £49 and the Duo READY Eyeshadow retails at £19

In the beginning there was Babyliss

It can only take a truly phenomenal event to inspire another hopeful writer to create a blog; and that event took place in the basement bar of Soho House last week.  As I nervously walked down the stairs, not sure what to expect, I was greeted and welcomed into a fashion and beauty extravaganza hosted by Henry Holland and Adam Reed.

As I was welcomed into a whirl wind of champagne, canapés and journalists, I couldn’t help but notice the volume of waves exuding from the top of the model’s head.  As I sat down, champagne in hand, I was blown away by Adam Reed’s demonstration on how he achieved this look.  It appears that Babyliss have created a hair dryer that can master anything from large flowing waves to smooth and slicked back hair. At first I was sceptical that any invention could smooth out my thick curly mane (I have my mother to thank for that), however I was proven wrong when I tried Babyliss’ new Italian AC dryer.  Finally there is a product that can achieve a smooth straight look without a flat iron, something that I am personally excited about. I’m so happy I can put mine down and give my hair a well deserved rest.  The Babyliss Italian AC Dryer comes with everything you need, including three heat settings, two speed settings and a cold setting. Not only is it extremely efficient, it is also travel friendly. Although I love my old hair dryer it’s too big and bulky. The Babyliss Italian AC is small and light so is perfect for the gym or wherever you wish.

Although I am sad to say goodbye to my old 10 year old hair dryer, I am proud to place my new Babyliss on my dresser.  Out with the old and in with the new.  I suggest you do the same.

The Italian AC Dryer is available from Argos from the 25th May.
